Outdoor Climbing

Buzzard Point

There is an alternate access to Buzzard that has been used for many years. It is much more convenient, but crosses private land, and recently, this access has been unreliable (ie: closed almost entirely). To give it a try, follow Highway 30 West out of Dayton for about four miles. At the top of the mountain, look for a small, white sign for Roger’s Road on the right. Turn right and follow it to a dead end at a house with a picket fence. Turn left and then immediately right. Note: At this point, you have gone through a gate (?) and are on private property. It is highly recommended that you stop and ask permission. From the gate, the road skirts the edge of a large field and enters the woods. From this point, follow the trail across the creek and bear right to a powerline cut. Trend right across the cut, and into the woods, to intersect a dirt road. Walk right along this road for about .25 miles and look for a faint trail off right, near some trees with yellow crosses painted on them. Follow this trail to a short ladder that descends to the base of the cliff.
